Pre-Production My Treatment - Ella McLeod

Due to the genre of our music video 'Underground Hip-Hop.' Our film does not have an actual narrative - our music video follows our artist as he ventures around London. With natural, evening lighting and casual handheld camera tracking etc... we created a very home-made minimalist feel to the clip, in respect of the character of the artist.
We decided our artist would be somewhat timid, keeping to himself however speaking loudly only through his music - In developing our character we again wanted out filming to be organic and natural with some alternative edits such as time lapse's and lens flares in reflection of the artistic, booming character he hides away.

Our character maintains a blank expression throughout the video which works hand in hand with the reputation underground artists often have. Being quite introverted almost reclusive artists who think strongly about the wrong-doing in industry etc...

This is why these artists tend to be underground as they do not have the developing want to carry their music to the mainstream world for the fame that comes with it. But rather they would reach out to the smaller audiences that have an ear for real talent and passion.

Narrative - The scene will begin with a lens flare opening an establishing shot of London city, followed by various walking shots/time-lapses timed well with the pace and booms/dips of the music. As the music is of a smoother pace we wanted our clips to be somewhat smooth with the changes/tones of the song. For the verses of the song the artists face will be somewhat side on/not focusing towards the camera - in order to not break the forth wall between the character and the audience - also developing the artists more reclusive personality. However the chorus will almost be a different motif - in the chorus' I wanted the shots to be more abstract and dynamic - with unusual panning/time-lapses. In having the character standing in the centre of frame, still and facing the camera it creates a sense of unease for the viewer with the abstract, unusual choice of shots. It brings the viewer in to the artists unusual, quirky personality. The quirky edits and shot choices also link to the complexity of the lyrics. For example with fast paced lyrics, we may use time lapses in sync with the verse. Also with the repeated use of the word 'Gold' we would have almost symmetrical visuals (Bright shots/lens flares.) With the artist constantly being on his own throughout the clip even with the bustles of people rushing past him with the time-lapses, we would end the clip with a distant shot of him being somewhat engulfed in a crowd before finishing with a fade to black.
