The Influence of Music Videos and the Synergy Created

Music videos have influence on a wide range of media products in the form of synergy through a cross-media convergence. The most obvious influence being MTV, since the 1980s there has been an increase in influence of music videos on TV programmes, in film trailers and in advertisements.

Synergy is shown in production of pop promos as they resemble film trailers; films help to sell the single and album and vice versa, so this is synergy.

Music videos initially drew on influences of film conventions to sell their music through intertextual references and they now play a crucial role in selling films.
