Director as Auteur

I decided to look into Dr Dre as a director of Auteur.
Dr Dre is a Hip-Hop artist, creator and director. Who's music I am extremely fond of, he is also well known for his ability to tell a story via his visuals and vocals.

Dr Dre in the music industry...

The word auteur is thrown around more and more to describe rap’s greatest minds, but the release of Compton makes one wonder whether anyone deserves this tag more than Dr. Dre. There is no doubt that Kanye West’s albums are robust orchestrations with countless moving parts, but his reliance on ready-mades of sound, bits of already existing crate glory, belies his role as hip-hop’s resident curator. An auteur, properly designated, creates fully formed cinematic worlds — or at least the soundtracks to them.

One of my most favourite examples of Auteur is seen within this video. The promo is a film within itself, with a captive storyline - incredible visuals and technology, alongside the music and lyricism. Dr Dre as a director and musician is acting as a storyteller and film-maker.
